Enriching Your Vocabulary
J.H.S 144 is continuing to infuse the FANTASTIC Word Generation program throughout all grade levels in our school. Word Generation is a research-based vocabulary program designed to teach challenging words through the content areas (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies). The program consists of weekly units that each introduce 5 "high-utility" focus words through brief passages outlining controversies currently under debate in this country. The passages are chosen to spark interest, encourage discussion, and to enrich student vocabulary.
The weekly units and target words are listed below. Please encourage your children to practice using these words at home in your conversations. We also urge to talk with your children about the weekly topics- they are highly controversial and the students are extremely engaged and interested in them.
